Probationary Certification Instructions
All students involved in teaching internships through Texas A&M's
College of Education and Human Development must receive probationary
certification from the state. The following steps are required by the
college in order to be recommended for probationary certification.
- Complete a CEHD program that leads to an internship;
- Accelerate
Online - an alternative certification program in secondary math and
science.
Coordinator: Lynn Beason.
- Post-Baccalaureate Secondary Education. Coordinator: Dr. Larry
Kelly and Kerri Smith.
- Undergraduate INST majors. INST can apply with the department
to do an internship rather than student teaching. Coordinator: Dr. Jack
Helfeldt.
- Educational
Administration. Coordinator: Joyce Nelson
- Pass the required TExES exams; and,
- Accelerate and the Post-Baccalaureate students are required to pass
the subject area exam. INST majors are required to pass both the
subject and PPR exams.
- Be offered a job in a Texas public school teaching a subject in your
certifcation area.
- Apply for Probationary Certification with SBEC.

- Post-Bacc, INST majors, and EDAD students will register as
a Texas A&M university-based certification program.
- Accelerate Online will register as a Texas A&M Alternative
certification program.
